Current Projects

The following is a partial list of projects currently under construction along with descriptions and renderings. These projects are being financed through Measure R, and/or Measure RR funding and state funding (as noted).

Business and Computer Technology Complex

This 87,000-sf complex would provide much-needed consolidation of business administration, accounting, management, computer information systems, office technology, and family/consumer sciences instructional programs. The two-building complex would include state-of-the-art technology that supports current teaching methods, including increased use of laboratory-based learning environments as opposed to traditional lecture classrooms.

Estimated cost: $46M (50% from state bond)

Esimated completion: Spring 2018

 

Parking Structure - ON HOLD

This project was placed on hold in July 2015. It is no longer among the projects under Measure RR.

The five-level parking structure will resolve the present parking crunch and provide some capacity for future growth. This project should provide enough parking for students until at least 2025.

The new structure will have 2,085 parking spaces, with approximately 125 designated for staff and faculty.

Photovoltaic System

This project will consist of the development of a solar power generation system on the area of campus commonly known as the "West Parcel," a triangular piece of land located west of Grand Avenue, south of Temple/Amar, south of the “Christmas tree lot.” This ground-mounted system will generate two megawatts of electricity for the campus and will save the college a projected $480,000 in energy costs annually.

This project, plus our existing cogeneration plant, will move Mt. SAC closer to energy independence.

Project status:  A Request for Proposals/Request for Qualifications for the assessment, design, installation, and operation and maintenance of this photovoltaic system by a design-build vendor was advertised and bid from April through early May 2015. Evaluations and interviews are scheduled for May 2015 and contract negotiations through early June 2015. It is anticipated that the Board of Trustees will approve contracts at the July 2015 board meeting.

Project start date:  Engineering and design will commence after contracts are approved at the July 8, 2015 Board meeting.  The engineering will take some time, but construction is estimated to begin late spring/early summer 2016.

Under separate contract, construction of an electrical duct bank from the solar site to the campus main switchgear is scheduled to be done this summer 2015.  Site preparation and grading will begin Winter 2015/2016.

Project Funding:  Proposition 39 Clean Energy Grant and Loan funds, Edison Rebate funds and Unrestricted General Fund.

Project Completion: To be determined. The successful bidder will be required to provide a schedule once under contract.

Project cost: $3.8M (Includes moving dirt from parking structure site, environmental mitigations, fencing, and landscaping)
